Android emerged as favourite mobile platform among consumers: Survey

April 25, 2015: While the global debate among iOS and Android users have not reached any consensus yet, the Middle East consumers made their choice clear. In a recent survey conducted by a leading Gulf technology website, Google's Android has been voted as the favourite mobile phone platform.

The ITP.net's Brand Preference Survey aimed to determine the preference pattern of Gulf residents for consumer electronics brands. There are over 17,000 participants took part, and overwhelming majority voted for Android.

The gender ratio of respondents comprised of one female to every 4 male. And most of them are based in UAE in between 21-50 age bracket.

When asked about their favourite mobile operating system, 52.54% of entries preferred Android over other platforms. The Google arch-rival platform iOS came second with 38.28% followed by 4.62% for Blackberry and meagre 4.33% for Microsoft's Windows.

The survey took place from 4th March and closed on 16 April. Based on a confidence level of 99% and a Gulf population of approximately 50m, this yielded a margin of error of 3.08%, according to standard sampling calculations of the blog.

Being a standalone company to support iOS with premium priced device, it will be not bad for Apple to score second compare to multiple devices in almost all price range supporting Android OS.
