China to overtake US as world's largest mobile games market by 2016

April 26, 2015: We all know the growing dominance of China in electronics manufacturing, but the country is emerging in mobile gaming market too. As per the white paper released by the Global Mobile Game Confederation(GMGC), China will overtake the U.S as the world's largest mobile phone gaming market in 2016.

Citing data from sources like market research firm Newzoo, the report has estimates the mobile gaming revenues of China in 2015 will hit $6.1 billion as compared to US's $6.3 billion. The company predicts the revenue to climb by huge number to touch the record $7.7 billion in 2016 as compared to US's $7.3 billion.

Peter Warman, co-founder and CEO of Newzoo says: "The fastest growth in mobile games is happening in China and the surrounding Southeast Asia market."

To support their projections, the dutch company report highlights the fact that the Chinese average smartphone user spend 35 minutes per day playing games while an average American user spends 11 minutes a day.

The ambitious numbers may excite Chinese game developers but it's no good news for foreign game publishers, due to the country's unfriendly & hostile market for outsiders. Only four international game publishers able to crack in top 50 on China's Android game market in 2014. The top positions are always been dominated by local publishers like Tencent and Netease.
