NASA in collaboration with Planetary Resources released a new desktop App which let public identify new asteroid from Telescopic Photography. The app uses a special hunting algorithm which let users check images and identify potential asteroids from their PCs. This tool allow astronomers to analyse the photos from their telescope and see if the matching asteroid exists. After analyzing, the user can able to sent the report to Minor Planet center through the app that confirms and archives the new asteroid.
This algorithm was an entry for 'NASA's Asteroid Grand Challenge' and it won $55,000 out of several others entries. This winning algorithm support all computer platforms and considered by NASA as the foolproof solution to detect new asteroids. And this chosen algorithm increases the probability of finding new asteroids by 15 percent.
