Australian startup Airtasker raises $5M in funding

May 5, 2015: An Australian based online and mobile market place startup Airtasker raised $5 million (AU$6.5 million) in funding. The investment round is led by China based Morning Crest Capital, the National Roads and Motorists' Association (NRMA), Carthona Capital, Australian VC Funds Exto Partners and Black Sheep Capital.
                      
The startup aims to spend the funds to improve its product development and bulk up its engineering capacity, customer support and the number of future services the company is in process of developing.

The Sydney based Airtasker CEO Tim Fung said: "The new services we are planning will be revolutionary for the local services economy." He further adds, "Morning Crest Capital's expertise and advice will allow us to investigate a broader Asia strategy with Airtasker's growth."

Founded in 2012, Airtasker allows users to outsource their everyday tasks on their online platform. The users describes the task, indicate the budget, and community members bid to complete the task. The company claims to have created $10.8M jobs till date with over 240,000 active user base. Their app is available on both iOS and Android platform.
