Leonardo DiCaprio loves Startups, a look at some of his investments

The superstar of Alejandro Gonzalez's The Revenant finally basks in the glory of a long awaited Academy Award on Sunday night, winning the Best Actor for his role as a real-life 19th-century fur trapper Hugh Glass, who's mauled by a bear and left for dead. We thought it's good time to take a dig at his investment portfolio, and bring out some of his love for Startups.

For starters, the 41-year old actor Leonardo DiCaprio portfolio describes himself as philanthropist and environmental activist, and when we had a look at his interest in the kind of startups he invested, his claims stands corrected.

Here are some of the Startups the actor invested:

Diamond Foundry

One of the recent investment of the actor includes Diamond Foundry, a California based startup that aims to change the diamond industry which was from long been stained by malpractices involving child labour, human-rights infringements, ecological destruction, and cartel-like pricing. They're looking to grow their very own diamonds, that are as high quality as natural gems.

Rubicon Global

Rubicon Global, a Atlanta-based startup that claims itself as "Uber for trash" or "Uber for recycling", and offers waste recycling and management services. The startup uses a software to manage a network of waste haulers that bid on picking up trash from business customers, and helps businesses reduce their trash bills by helping them find nearby recycle spots to sell off their garbage.

Last year in September, the company raised $50M in an unattributed round from Goldman Sachs, Nima Capital, Wellington and Tudorfunds.

Fisker Automative

And one more environment friendly investment Fisker Automative, a startup that aims to produce the environment friendly sports cars without comprising on performance.

Founded in 2014, the company launched it's first production plug-in hybrid electric vehicle Fisker Karma, and later the startup was acquired by a Chinese auto-parts firm Wanxiang Group.

Mobli

One of the first bets of the actor's investment was Mobli, a visual social media platform that allows users to share the moments by taking photos and videos. Leonardo was part of first round of $4M seed funding raised from "high profile investors" in 2011.

The other private investors of Mobli includes famous names like Tennis star Serena Williams, Carlos slim.
