Facebook launched Video calls for Messenger to combat Skype

April 27, 2015: Facebook looks quite serious about their messenger, from last few weeks, the tech company trying everything they can to make their chatting application a formidable contender against archrival skype, tango, facetime.

The California based company announced through it's official blog today about their decision to introduce the video calling feature in Messenger.

The new feature will debut today in US, UK, Canada, Ireland, France and 12 other countries. The feature will be available on both Android and iOS, and it will work smoothly even on cross platform calls.

Facebook in it's blog says:

"Messenger already offers people the ability to make voice calls to friends and loved ones around the world. Video calling will expand Messenger's real-time communication features, enabling the more than 600 million people who use Messenger every month to reach others wherever they are, from anywhere. It's fast, reliable and high quality."

Recently, Facebook introduced the standalone chat web browser messenger.com enabling users to directly chat without getting disturbed by newsfeed.
