WhatsApp adds file sharing support, here's how it works

After reaching a milestone of 1 billion users, the Facebook owned mobile messaging application WhatsApp has some good news for users, the company rolling out a much-anticipated feature to its apps on iOS and Android platform: file sharing.

Although nothing official has been announced yet from the company, but number of WhatsApp users have seen the feature appearing beside their usual photo or video, contact, and location sharing options.

How it works?

For those lucky few users whose apps has already been updated with this feature, here's how file sharing works.

- On Android: Tap the attachment icon at top right of the screen, like you do to share picture. Now, you can see the document option besides camera, gallery, audio etc.

Click on the document option to select the documents you want to send, and click the arrow to send. That's it. And it's important to note that, you can't share documents to contacts whose apps are still need an update and only PDF documents are supported at the moment.

- On iOS: Tap the arrow icon in the chat then an addition "Share Document" from the menu appears, besides photo/video and share location. Pick the documents you want to send, then click send.

Users can able to select the documents from other cloud storage services including Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud Drive and others, but at the moment it supports only PDF documents.

Since WhatsApp invested a fair amount on end-to-end encryption, whatever you share on its app are secured and protected. The feature will soon roll out for all iOS and Android users.
